DEQ to host public meeting and extend comment period on proposed IPDES permit for the Santa-Fernwood Sewer District

BOISE  The Idaho Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) will host a public meeting to discuss the proposed Santa-Fernwood Sewer District Idaho Pollution Discharge Elimination System (IPDES) Permit (ID0022845). The meeting will be at 6 p.m. on Oct. 23 at the CAF Building in Fernwood, ID (64361 Hwy 3 South).

The meeting will discuss the proposed discharge permit and fact sheet, explain the differences between the 2004 permit and the 2019 proposed permit, accept written public comment, and answer question from stakeholders on the proposed permit.

The proposed permit would authorize the conditional discharge of treated municipal wastewater to Saint Maries River in permitted locations for up to 5 years.

The permit also identifies the pollutants of concern and lists the required limits for each pollutant or parameter, monitoring requirements, and reporting requirements necessary to ensure compliance with the permit and protect human health and the environment.

DEQ has also extended the public comment period on the proposed IPDES permit. Interested parties now have until Oct. 30 at 5 p.m. MDT to submit written comments.
