Wastewater Lagoon Troubleshooting Webinar

These webinars are designed to assist operators in troubleshooting and optimizing their wastewater lagoons. The class will be taught by Steve Harris, president and owner of H&S Environmental, in Mesa, Arizona. This course will emphasize practical application at wastewater treatment sites with lagoons. Operators in this workshop learn what it takes to get the most out of their existing lagoon system without spending lots of money. Attendees will develop the skills and learn the practical techniques for realizing their lagoon’s full potential.

Who Should Attend?

  • Wastewater operators, engineers, and professionals who work with lagoon

May 14 or May 15 Webinar:  BOD troubleshooting and optimization in wastewater lagoon systems

This webinar will introduce to operators a detailed protocol for optimizing and troubleshooting wastewater lagoon biochemical oxygen demand (BOD) problems and demonstrate how to properly sample a wastewater lagoon system to diagnose where, when, and why there is a BOD problem. This webinar is intended to assist wastewater operators to understand the different types of diagnostic BODs. Show operators algae’s effect on the BOD5 test, nitrification’s effect on the BOD5 test and the additional BOD5 demand placed on the lagoon by the sludge blanket feeding nutrients back to the water column. Three (3) case studies are presented from actual communities solving BOD5 issues to illustrate the diagnostic principals set forth

  • 2-hour webinar from 2 pm to 4 pm Mountain time.

May 21 or May 22 Webinar:  TSS troubleshooting and optimization in wastewater lagoon systems

This webinar will review the various causes of total suspended solids (TSS) violations. This webinar will introduce a detailed protocol for optimizing and troubleshooting wastewater lagoon TSS problems and demonstrate how to properly sample a wastewater lagoon system to diagnose where, when, and why there is a TSS problem. The webinar is intended to assist operators in understanding the different sources and causes of TSS problems and the influence of sludge on the TSS in a wastewater lagoon system. Three (3) case studies are presented from actual communities solving TSS issues illustrating the diagnostic protocol set forth.

May 28 or May 29 Webinar:  Sludge Accumulation and removal in wastewater lagoon systems

This webinar will review the problems accumulated sludge creates with oxygen demand and TSS in a lagoon system. Steve Harris will discuss how to determine the volume and mass of sludge through proper sludge judging and core sampling techniques. The webinar will review important things to consider before sludge judging and core sampling a lagoon, and how to prepare for these tests. How to minimize sludge accumulation and signs it’s time to remove sludge will be discussed. There will be a case study and lecture on the problems associated with sludge accumulation.
